KUSA Dismantling Towers on Lookout Mountain

From: Golden Informer, July 2009
With the deadline for commercial television stations to transition
to a digital signal passed, KUSA has begun the process of
removing their towers and equipment from the top of
Lookout Mountain.  A schedule released by Jefferson County
in late May indicated that the television station planned to
begin the demolition process in mid-June and expects to have
the entire site cleared of equipment, structures, and buildings
by the end of August.

KMGH has not yet released a schedule of when they expect
to remove their equipment from the site. The deadline for
commercial television stations to transition to a digital
over-the-air signal was Juen 12.  The original February
deadline was extended due to concerns that citizens had
not been given enough time to obtain the necessary converter boxes.

Heritage Road Closure

From: City of Golden, Monday - June 29, 2009
The Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, Jefferson County
and City of Golden are partnering on the replacement of the
drainage culvert under Heritage Road at U.S. 40 (Colfax Ave).
The pipe has deteriorated to the point of causing a sinkhole to
open in Heritage Road just north of U.S. 40.

Beginning July 6th, Heritage Road will be closed at U.S. 40
(Colfax Ave).  Southbound Heritage Road traffic will be detoured
at the entrance to the Apex Park trailhead, through the Heritage
Square parking lot, to U.S. 40 (Colfax Ave).

The northbound left turn lane on U.S. 40 (Colfax Ave.) to Heritage
Road will be closed.  Northbound U.S. 40 traffic will need to
travel to U.S. 6 and turn west to get to Heritage Road.
The project is expected to take 6 to 7 weeks to complete.
Urban Drainage, Jefferson County, and the City of Golden
appreciate your patience during this project.

Mount Morrison Case
C.A.R.E. won its appeal of the County Commissioners approval of
the Public Television, Public Radio and Bear Creek Development
Tower and Broadcast facility on Mt. Morrison. In a landmark
zoning decision, The Colorado Court of Appeals said that Jeffco
must follow its own land use plans, must affirmatively find that
no other site for a broadcast tower exists before approving a
new facility and must not allow the applicant to introduce new
information after closing public comment.

Jeffco and the broadcasters have asked the Colorado Supreme
Court to review the case. The Colorado Supreme Court has not
granted certiorari to date. Unless the Supreme Court takes the
case, the tower and complex cannot be built without new
hearings conducted under the rules set down in the decision.

Public Broadcasting turned on a digital TV antenna on the ice
bridge of the existing Channel 20 tower on Mt. Morrison (the
tall one). Because of complaints about reception, Public
Broadcasting is once more broadcasting from Republic Plaza
downtown.
